DC Himanshu Aggarwal starts purchase of wheat at Bhogpur Mandi, ensures necessary arrangements for convenience of farmers

Jalandhar: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Agarwal, while starting the purchase of wheat in the grain market of Bhogpur today, said that the entire arrangements have been completed in the district for the purchase of the wheat crop during the season 2024.

The first bulk of farmers Santokh Singh and Paramjit Singh of Talwandi were purchased by the procurement agency.

The Deputy Commissioner said that this time a target of 5.18 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been set in the district, for which 106 procurement centers have been established in the district, including 80 regular markets and 26 RG procurement centres. He said that all the markets in the district have been allotted to different procurement agencies.

He said that basic amenities such as drinking water, shade, light, cleanliness, toilets, etc. have been made necessary in all the mandis keeping the convenience of the farmers in mind. Apart from this, arrangements for labour, laundry, transportation etc. have also been ensured.

He said that the minimum support price of wheat has been fixed at Rs 2275 per quintal and after the purchase, simultaneous harvesting of the crop and timely payment will be ensured, for which instructions have already been issued to the concerned officials.

Reiterating the commitment of smooth procurement of wheat by the district administration, the Deputy Commissioner said that by running the entire procurement process in a smooth manner, the procurement of grains of the farmers will be ensured.

Urging the farmers to bring only dry crops to the mandis, the Deputy Commissioner said that the farmers should bring the crops to the mandis according to the prescribed moisture limit so that they do not face any problem in selling the crops.
