Development work stopped due to the non-conduct of elections

In the petition filed by Beant Singh, it has been argued that the term of 42 municipal councils of Punjab was completed several months ago. It has been more than two years since the term ended. But their elections are not being conducted by the government. Due to this, development work in these city councils is being affected. People are facing problems.

Election notification was issued

The petitioner told the court that on August 1, 2023, the Local Bodies Department had issued a notification to conduct the elections of the Municipal Council. According to the notification, the elections were to be held on November 1, 2023. But no action was taken. Right now this matter is hanging. However, before this, the matter of delay in the elections of four municipal corporations had also reached the High Court. In that too, the court had asked for all the planning from the government.
