Deputy Commissioner Amritsar, Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney has banned the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, in the Amritsar district. In her order, she said that it poses a potential threat to public safety and law and order.
Moreover, some anti-social elements or miscreants may misuse such drones for surveillance, smuggling, photography of sensitive installations, and other activities detrimental to peace.
Therefore, Sakshi sawhney, District Magistrate, Amritsar, in exercise of the powers vested in her under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Protection Code, 2023, hereby bans them. This ban shall remain in force till further orders, but these orders shall not apply to drones operated by law enforcement agencies, armed forces, or any other government agencies for official duties.
Further, this ban will not apply to drones used without prior written permission from any officer authorized by the District Administration. Any person violating this order will be liable for penal action under the provisions of the Indian Civil Safety Code, 2023 and other applicable laws.
