Gurdaspur: Late last evening at village Awankha, the police of Gurdaspur city police station, who came to arrest the accused, the accused’s relatives and other associates manhandled the police and chased away the accused.
When the police of Gurdaspur City Police Station arrived at village Awankha to arrest the accused in connection with the case registered at Gurdaspur City Police Station, the relatives of the said accused and some of his associates misbehaved with the police. They even grabbed the police officer’s uniform and released the accused from police custody.
According to the information received a case was registered in Gurdaspur city police station on 18-10-2024 under section 304,332 BNS 379B 454 section. In the investigation, the name of Amarjit of village Paniyar came up. Police came to know that Amarjit had come to his in-laws house at Awankha. When the police party reached Awankha and came to take Amarjit with them, Amarjit’s in-laws’ family and some other people from their village resisted the police and fought with the police officials to rescue Amarjit from the police.
In this scuffle, the uniform of ASI Gurpinder Singh was also torn by the said persons and the accused Amarjit was released from the police and ran away. ASI Gurpinder Singh of Gurdaspur City police station has recorded his statement regarding the assault and tearing of his uniform in Dinanagar police Station.
Dinanagar Police has started further action after recording the statement of ASI Gurpinder Singh.
