Chandigarh: Punjab’s Director General of Police (DGP), Gaurav Yadav, announced on Friday that the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign, ‘Yudh Nashiyan Virudh’, has achieved a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a prominent drug trafficker. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of the Punjab Police has seized 18.2 kg of heroin from the suspect’s possession.

The arrested individual, identified as Hira Singh, also known as Hira, resides in Khaira village in Amritsar district. DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations revealed that Hira Singh and his associate, Kulwinder Singh, known as Kinda, from Dauke village in Amritsar, were maintaining contact with a Pakistan-based drug trafficker named Billa. This drug dealer has been utilizing drones to transport substantial amounts of heroin across the border over the past year.

The DGP stated that police are conducting raids to apprehend the fugitive Kulwinder Singh. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover both forward and backward linkages related to this case.

Nilabh Kishore, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for ANTF, reported that teams from the ANTF Border Range Amritsar obtained reliable information about Hira Singh and Kulwinder Singh being notorious drug smugglers who have, for the past year, received shipments of heroin via drones from Pakistan-based traffickers.

Acting promptly, police teams led by Superintendent of Police (Amritsar), Gurpreet Singh, executed an operation and arrested Hira Singh as he was leaving his home on a motorcycle to deliver the heroin consignment. Authorities recovered 12 packets of heroin, each weighing 1.5 kg, bringing the total seizure to 18 kg 227 gm.

The ADGP noted that, in efforts to dismantle the heroin supply chain, Hira Singh will be thoroughly questioned, and actions will be taken against other involved parties based on the evidence gathered.
