Electricity worker dies due to electric shock in Jalandhar

Accident during duty: family members staged a sit-in and left on DIG's assurance. 

Jalandhar: On Tuesday morning an electricity worker died due to an electric shock in Jalandhar. The electricity worker was hit by an electric current while repairing electricity near Maqsuda Nagra. The deceased has been identified as Sunny.

Family members said that Sunny was married. He was working in the electricity department for 20 years. The family had hope of getting a permanent government job.

The family members staged a sit-in protest by placing Sunny’s dead body in an ambulance on the road outside Shakti Sadan near BSF Chowk and blocking the road. Sunny’s sister said that Sunny’s job should be given to his younger brother Rajan. So that their family can run well.

The sister alleges that the electricity department officials had a meeting with the higher officials thrice. But nothing was resolved. When in the evening, the family members of the deceased raised slogans outside the closed gate of Shakti Sadan.

DIG Naveen Singla stopped on the way after seeing the people protesting. He asked the reason for this protest and immediately called his subordinates. DIG has scheduled a meeting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. DIG Naveen Singla assured them that their demands would be heard. After that, Sunny’s family ended the protest at 6 pm.
