Chandigarh: After the failed attempt to attack Sukhbir Singh Badal in Amritsar, Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal has called a meeting of the core committee in Chandigarh today. This meeting will start at around 3:30 pm today. The meeting will be chaired by core executive head Balwinder Singh Bhundar. It remains to be seen whether the leaders of the rebel group will also attend this meeting or not.
Yesterday SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema in post on X said, “The Shiromani Akali Dal has called an emergency meeting of Core Committee of the party tomorrow Dec 6 at 3.30 pm in party head office, Chandigarh. It will be presided by party Working President S Balwinder S Bhundar. It will discuss about murderous attack on S Sukhbir Singh Badal yesterday at Amritsar.”
This is the first meeting after Sri Akal Takht Sahib raised questions on the functioning of the Akali Dal. On December 2, Sri Akal Takht Sahib reprimanded the Akali Dal, expressing concern over the incidents that took place during the Akali Dal government. Not only this, orders were given to form a new Akali Dal in the next 6 months and to choose new faces as per the rules during this period.
It is worth noting that Sukhbir Badal has to serve in 5 gurudwaras for 10 days and it is only the fourth day now. While serving in Amritsar, on the second day, Khalistan supporter Narain Singh Chaura shot at him outside the Golden Temple. However, he escaped unhurt.
On the other hand, before the meeting on December 2, Sukhbir Badal’s resignation from the post of Akali Dal chief is to be accepted in a few days and its report is to be sent to Sri Akal Takht Sahib. It is expected that in this meeting the Akali Dal will also take a decision on this and consider how to do it.
Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh of Sri Akal Takht Sahib had ordered that after the meeting both the tainted and rebel parties will work together for the Akali Dal. Now it has to be seen which leaders of the rebel group will reach this meeting.
