Sangrur: An encounter took place between the police and gangsters near Nadampur in Sangrur today. The police had brought gangster Maninder Singh Mohali to the canal road to recover weapons. The gangster opened fire on the police with a loaded foreign pistol hidden in the bushes. In the retaliatory action of the police, the gangster got shot in the leg.
The gangster’s bullet hit a policeman’s turban and went into the police vehicle. The injured gangster was sent to Sangrur Hospital. SP Palwinder Singh Cheema said that they had received information that some people had deadly weapons and were planning target killing. On this basis, the police had earlier also arrested some people.
Investigation revealed that all of them are in contact with a gangster lodged in jail. He gives instructions for target killing from the jail itself. During the encounter, a police team led by CIA staff in-charge Sandeep Singh was present. SP Cheema also reached the spot with his team.
After this, when the police brought the said gangster from jail for interrogation, he admitted that he also has a foreign pistol, which he has hidden in a field near the canal track. When the police party came here to recover the pistol from this gangster, he opened fire on the police party with the pistol hidden here. He told that many criminal cases have already been registered against the said gangster.
