Chandigarh: The Excise and Taxation Department of Punjab has exposed 303 such firms or companies that were filing fake ITC returns of Rs 4044 crore by showing fake bills related to the purchase and sale of iron. Of these, 206 firms were registered with the Center. While 11 were related to Punjab and 86 other states. These companies were working from many areas, including Ludhiana and Mandi Gobindgarh.
These firms were registered only some time ago. This claim was made by Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema in a press conference. He said that the registration of all firms in Punjab has been cancelled. A case has also been registered against 11 people.
While the Center also has to take action. Rs 89 crore has been saved by directly blocking the firms registered with the Center. Now all firms will be registered with Aadhaar. So that there is no fake registration.
Similarly, fake bills of gold worth Rs 336 crore have been caught from a firm in Amritsar. There is no information about where the gold was bought and sold. A fine of Rs 20 crore has been imposed on it. The second company is from Ludhiana. It has defrauded Rs 424 crore. A tax of Rs 25 crore will be imposed on the company. He said that a big theft had been detected. Money will be recovered from them.
Finance Minister Harpal Cheema said that 68 such firms have also been caught. Whose registration was in the name of others. In this, the owners had made the employees or servants working in the company. The documents of the employees were misused. But those people had no information about this. In such cases, fraud of Rs 533 crore has been detected. He said that these people were very clever. They will keep an eye on such people in the future as well.
