Jalandhar: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was secretly shifted from the PWD Rest House in Jalandhar Cantt (Army Area) to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on Sunday morning. After detaining Dallewal, the police first took him to PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar and then in view of the media gathering, he was shifted to the PWD Rest House inside Kisan Cantt.
After staying in the said rest house for three days, Dallewal was shifted to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala this morning without anyone’s knowledge. However, no information has been shared by the district administration and police in this regard. At present, no clear statement has come out on why he was kept in Rajindra Hospital.
Police had reached Jalandhar three days ago
According to the information received, after 13 months, when the Punjab Haryana border was cleared of farmers by the police, immediately after the meeting of the farmers with the central and state ministers, farmer leaders Sarwan Singh Pandher and Jagjit Singh Dallewal were taken into custody from Mohali. After being taken into custody from there, Dallewal was brought to PIMS Hospital in Jalandhar.
When the media came to know about Dallewal’s presence in PIMS hospital, a crowd gathered outside. After which Dallewal was shifted to the PWD Rest House in the Army area. No one was allowed entry there. Also, the entry was first blocked by the police and then by the army. But today Dallewal has been shifted to Patiala.
The matter reached the Supreme Court from the High Court, talks began on Dallewal’s hunger strike
Due to the Centre not holding talks, a PIL was filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court to open the Shambhu border. The High Court ordered the opening of the Shambhu border within a month. The Haryana government moved the Supreme Court against this. The Supreme Court formed a committee to mediate between the Centre and the farmers. Meanwhile, farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal began a hunger strike from November 26. After which the Centre again agreed to hold talks.
Talks were held in Chandigarh on 14 February 2025 but no solution was found. Another meeting was held on 22 February but the farmers refused to end the agitation until a guaranteed law on MSP was made.
