To take stock of the preparations for the Rail Roko movement to be held on October 3, the groups held a meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of farmer leader Satnam Singh Sahni. Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Morcha coordinator Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the farmers have announced a 3-hour nationwide Rail Roko movement on October 3 in protest against the no-punishment tp the former Union Minister of State for Home and his son Ashish Monu Mishra, the main accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, and for the remaining 12 demands including MSP.

Pandher said that trains will be blocked at about 30 places in 18 districts of Punjab. These include Batala, Tarn Taran city and Patti in district Gurdaspur, Tanda and Hoshiarpur Khas in Hoshiarpur, Kila Raipur and Sahnewal in Ludhiana, Phillaur and Lohia in Jalandhar, Talwandi Bhai, Mallawala, Makhu, Guru Har Sahai in district Ferozepur, Moga station, Patiala station in Moga district, Malot in Muktsar, Hamira and Sultanpur in Kapurthala, Sunam, Ahmedgarh Mandi in Malerkotla, Faridkot city in Faridkot, Rampura Phul in district Bathinda and Parmanand in district Pathankot, besides sit-ins at three places in Haryana, two places in Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. Trains will be blocked at three places in UP.

Basmati prices are low

Pandher further said that the government is encouraging farmers to grow Basmati to save water under the ground. This time many farmers have planted Basmati, but the price of Basmati which is being given is very low. The government should immediately pay attention to this, Pandher demanded the government to find a concrete solution to the problem of stubble instead of imposing fines on farmers and conducting red entries on them.

He also appealed to provide adequate supply of DAP to farmers through cooperative societies.
