Farmers getting over 7 thousand per quintal for mustard in Khanna Mandi

Due to favorable weather, this time the yield has also increased compared to last year.

This time, the mustard crop in Punjab has brought good income to the farmers. In Asia’s largest grain market Khanna, mustard is being sold at a price of more than Rs 7 thousand per quintal. Due to favorable weather, this time the yield has also increased compared to last year. Farmers from different districts of Punjab are reaching Khanna Mandi to sell their crops.

Private traders are buying

The market committee administration makes bidding and other arrangements for the farmers. There is no government purchase of mustard and only private traders buy it. Farmer Narinder Singh of Ratton village of Fatehgarh Sahib said that this time both the yield and the price are good. He is getting a price of about Rs 5500 per quintal. He said that the government should provide mustard seeds. Along with this, there should also be a guarantee of purchase at MSP.

According to Ved Prakash, a commission agent of Khanna Mandi, this time the sowing of mustard is less, but the yield is 8 to 10 quintals per acre. The price is getting one thousand rupees more than last year. The commission agents have also demanded government procurement. They say that this will eliminate the risk of payment. Farmers say that the Punjab government is encouraging them to grow crops other than wheat and paddy.

Adequate facilities are not being provided for this. They believe that if all crops are procured by the government, then farmers will be able to get out of the traditional farming of wheat and paddy.
