Amritsar: An FIR has been lodged against social media influencer Archana Makwana, who did yoga at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, on June 21, i.e., International Yoga Day. This complaint was made by Golden Temple manager Bhagwant Singh. A case has been registered against Archana under Section 295-A for hurting religious sentiments.
Influencer Archana Makwana, a resident of Gujarat, posted some pictures of herself doing yoga at Golden Temple on her social media account. After this, these photos went viral. As soon as this came to light, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) expressed a strong objection.
They suspended three employees on Golden Temple’s parikrama duty and ordered an inquiry. At the same time, a complaint was also given to the police for action against Archana Makwana. However, Archana has apologized after knowing the displeasure of the people, but still, an FIR has been registered against her.
In the FIR, Bhagwant Singh wrote that on June 22, 2024, we were present on duty when a video went viral on YouTube and Instagram. In this, Archana Makwana took objectionable photos near the place of Shaheed Baba Deep Singh Ji in the Parikrama of Sri Darbar Sahib and is deliberately making it viral. This has hurt Sikh sentiments.
Archana Makwana posted two pictures on social media. In these, she is seen doing meditation and Shirshasana. She did these yoga asanas in the Parikrama of the Golden Temple. After this, she posted this photo and wrote, ‘I thank Waheguru Ji that I got help in spreading the power of yoga from his place.’
After Archana’s photos surfaced, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that doing such things in the Golden Temple is against Sikh dignity. Still, some people deliberately ignore the sanctity and historical importance of this holy place and do petty acts. Recently, a girl has also hurt Sikh sentiments and dignity by doing such an act. For which a letter has been written to the police to take action.
Golden Temple General Manager Bhagwant Singh Dhangera said that an investigation of CCTV cameras revealed that the girl completed the act of doing yoga in just 5 seconds. During this time, three security personnel were on duty there. After an initial investigation, they have been suspended, while an employee has been fined Rs 5,000 and transferred to Gurdwara Garhi Sahib Gurdas Nangal.
After action was taken by the SGPC, Archana Makwana posted a story on her social media account and apologized. Archana said that she did not post to hurt anyone’s religious sentiments. She was not aware that doing yoga inside Gurdwara Sahib was wrong. She was just paying respect and did not want to hurt anyone.
Archana said, ‘I apologize for this mistake. I promise that I will never do this in the future. Please accept my apology.’
