A huge fire broke out in the tank of a CNG truck passing through the bridge near Gurdwara Nanaksar on Ferozepur Road in Ludhiana. The truck was loaded with biscuits. The tank exploded due to the fire. The tank was badly burnt to ashes. There were two tanks in the truck.
The blast also shook Ferozepur Road and the surrounding villages. According to some eyewitnesses present on the spot, the driver jumped out and ran away when the tanker caught fire. The truck was removed from the highway with the help of a crane.
On seeing the CNG blast at the spot, the passersby stopped their vehicles at the place where they were. People immediately informed the fire brigade. People were also scared due to the blast. Many vehicles were also stuck in the jam on Ferozepur Road.
Jagraon fire department vehicles reached the spot some time after the incident. After working hard for more than 1 hour, the fire brigade personnel controlled the fire. The truck in which the blast took place was going from Ludhiana to Moga. The driver could not be identified yet.
The police have taken the damaged vehicle in their custody and are trying to trace the driver. Jagraon police is currently investigating the case. The reason for the blast is not yet known.
According to Balraj Singh, police officer of Chowki Bus Stand, the cause of the blast in truck PB 10 HQ 8430 is the explosion of two CNG gas cylinders fitted in the front, after which the truck was blown to pieces. Biscuits were loaded in the truck which got burnt.
The fire brigade vehicle of Nagar Council Jagraon extinguished the fire at the spot. Rescue operations continued till 11:30 pm. According to the police personnel, the driver could not be traced in the truck. He said that the driver jumped out and ran away.
