Chandigarh: A yellow fog alert has been issued in 15 districts of Punjab today. Visibility here can go below 50 meters. In the last 24 hours, the temperature has dropped by 1 degree in Punjab and 1.5 degrees in Chandigarh. Western disturbance has become active on the Pakistan-Iran border, after which a warning of rain and snowfall has been issued in the hilly areas from November 30.
There will be a further drop of 1 to 2 degrees in the plains. According to the Meteorological Center, a yellow alert of dense fog has been issued in Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Moga, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa, Sangrur, Malerkotla and Patiala.
The weather will remain dry throughout the coming week and no alert or forecast of rain has been issued. At the same time, the coming days are going to be dry in Chandigarh too and there is no possibility of rain. But the temperature may drop by 2 to 3 degrees.
A report was filed by the Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department of Punjab on November 26, stating that the efforts made by the state of Punjab have resulted in a significant reduction in the incidents of stubble burning. According to the report, the number of incidents of stubble burning was 36,551 on November 25, 2023, which came down to 10,479 by November 25, 2024. This shows a reduction of 70 percent.
Along with this, air pollution has also decreased in Punjab and Chandigarh. The Air Quality Index of all cities except Ludhiana in Punjab was found to be less than 200. While AQI was recorded at 235 in Ludhiana. At the same time, AQI was recorded at 212 in Sector 53 of Chandigarh and at other places it was less than 150 AQI.
