Golden Temple Suicide By Shooting Case: DGP Punjab police appear before court virtually, asked for investigation report

Chandigarh: In the Golden Temple suicide by shooting case, Punjab Police Director General (DGP) Gaurav Yadav appeared before the Punjab and Haryana High Court via video conferencing. Chandigarh: In the Golden Temple suicide by shooting case, Punjab Police Director General (DGP) Gaurav Yadav appeared before the Punjab and Haryana High Court via video conferencing. The court stated that the incident at the Amritsar Golden Temple indicates a serious security lapse.

The court asked the DGP about the progress of the Punjab Police’s investigation into the case and has summoned a report from the police. During the hearing, officials from the Chandigarh Police were also present.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal expressed concern that they do not see police patrolling during their morning walks. They emphasized the need to increase security for the judges and directed the Chandigarh Police to review the judges’ security.

In Amritsar Golden Temple Shoot And Suicide case The Punjab & Haryana High Court yesterday had took suo moto cognizance of an alleged incident wherein a man committed suicide by pulling out a gun from the Personal Security Officer (PSO) ASI Ashwani of a sitting judge NS Shekhawat at Golden Temple.
“There is definitely lapse of security and therefore” said Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal. The High Court  yesterday had directed the Director General of Police, Punjab, to be appear in Court through video conferencing tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
According to reports, on Sunday 22 September, judge NS Shekhawat was visiting the Golden Temple to pay obeisance, accompanied by their security personnel. While the Judge went inside the temple, his Personal Security Officer (PSO) ASI Ashwani remained outside in the corridor.

During this time, the young man managed to grab one of the security personnel’s pistols and shot himself.  The injured youth was taken to Shri Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The individual who shot himself was a migrant but his identity is yet to be unknown.
