Ludhiana:
First Local bodies minister Dr Ravjot Singh and then Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria visited Gaushala Point of Buddha Dariya, on Saturday, to inspect the work being carried out under Buddha Darya rejuvenation project.
They inspected the temporary pumping station established under ‘Kar Sewa’ led by Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal to stop the flow of sewer waste into the ‘Buddha Dariya’
During the visit, Governor Kataria, while addressing the media, announced to hold monthly meetings on-site to closely monitor the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project.
Governor disclosed that he has already convened two meetings at the Raj Bhawan to evaluate the project’s implementation. “Starting from February, a monthly meeting will take place at the Gaushala Point, Ludhiana. These meetings will include MPs, MLAs, officials, NGOs, and other stakeholders, with the objective of rejuvenating Buddha Dariya before the onset of the monsoon season this year under the supervision of Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal who is actively involved in Kar Sewa (voluntary service) at the location to support these efforts,” he said.
He proposed dividing the work along the 14-kilometer stretch into different segments to expedite cleaning efforts. It is essential to engage the public in order to ensure speedy rejuvenation and protect the Sutlej River from effluents, he added.
Later, the Governor also visited the 225-MLD Sewage Treatment Plant in Jamalpur and reviewed its operations.
Earlier in the day, the cabinet minister Dr. Ravjot Singh applauded the efforts put in by MP Seechewal and after inspecting the temporary pumping station, he also conducted a meeting with the officials and directed them to take strict action against those dumping untreated waste in the Buddha Dariya.
Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh said that the state government is not against the industry or any other sector, but no one can be allowed to pollute ‘Buddha Dariya’.
Dr Ravjot Singh said that they would also be holding meetings with the dairy owners of Tajpur road dairy complex and Haibowal dairy complex on January 27. The dairy owners would again be appealed to stop dumping cow dung in the Dariya to avoid action.
Meanwhile, Dr Ravjot Singh directed the officials to expedite the projects to establish biogas plants in Haibowal and Tajpur road dairy complexes. Till that time arrangements should be made to lift the cow dung from dairy units and dump the same at designated sites. Civic body officials stated that temporary arrangements have already been made to lift the cow dung and tenders have also been floated to rope in a contractor for lifting cow dung from dairy units.
During the occasion, Mayor Principal Inderjit Kaur, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal and other MC officials were also present at the site.
