Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has given scholarships worth Rs 10.18 crore to 2,394 players. This program was held at the Government College in Sector 42, where the Governor felicitated the players and motivated them to move forward with hard work and discipline. He said that sports provide physical and mental strength, and it is also a good way to teach discipline, teamwork and leadership.
The governor distributed cheques to the players and said, “Every player has the power to win. If you move forward with hard work, discipline and proper guidance, then no one can stop you. On this occasion, Chandigarh Chief Secretary Rajiv Verma, Principal Secretary to the Governor Vivek Pratap Singh, Sports Secretary Prerna Puri, Sports Director Saurabh Kumar Arora and other officials were present.
The governor said that sports are getting a lot of encouragement under the leadership of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. He said that the budget of Khelo India has been increased three times, which will provide better facilities and resources to the players. With this, the players of the country will be able to make their name at the international level.
The governor said that Chandigarh has given Abhinav Bindra (Olympic gold medalist), Kapil Dev (cricketer) and many great hockey players. He expressed hope that more players will emerge with the new sports policy and will make the country proud.
