Grenade attack outside residence of BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia: Police arrest two suspects

One of the accused got down from the e-rickshaw, took out the lever of the hand grenade and threw it inside the former minister's house.

Jalandhar:There was a grenade attack on the house of former Punjab cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Manoranjan Kalia last night. Some people who came in an e-rickshaw threw a grenade in his house, which caused a loud explosion. At the time of the attack, the former minister was sleeping in his house. Other family members were also in the house with him.

Jalandhar police taking swift action have arrested 2 accused of throwing grenades within 12 hours. The e-rickshaw has also been recovered by the police. Punjab Law and Order DGP Arpit Shukla said that the Pakistani intelligence agency ISI carried out the attack. The link of Don Shahzad Bhatti, Zeeshan Akhtar and Lawrence Gang sitting in Pakistan has also come to light.

This entire incident has been captured in the CCTV installed outside his house. In this, an e-rickshaw is seen coming out from outside the former minister’s house. Due to this explosion, the glass of the car parked in the courtyard of the former minister broke. A pit was also formed in the ground. However, no person has been injured.

No one was injured in the incident. But the blast in the courtyard of the former minister’s house caused a lot of destruction and chaos. A total of 3 people came to attack riding an e-rickshaw and a bike. One of the accused got down from the e-rickshaw, took out the lever of the hand grenade and threw it inside the former minister’s house. After which, a massive blast occurred.

According to the information received, Manoranjan Kalia has the protection of the Punjab Police. He has been allotted 4 gunmen by the Punjab government. Kalia’s security in-charge is Nishan Singh. He came out immediately after the attack. The attack took place between 1.03 and 1.07 at night near the most prominent Shastri Market Chowk of Jalandhar in Punjab.

The place where the incident took place is 50 meters away from where the 24-hour police PCR team is present, and just 100 meters away is Police Station Division No. 3. Despite this, the accused came and fled after throwing a hand grenade inside the former minister’s house.

Dhanpreet Kaur, Jalandhar Police Commissioner, told reporters, “Around 1 am, we got information of blast here, after which we reached the spot and started the investigation. The forensic team is investigating the matter…We are also monitoring the CCTV… The forensic team is investigating whether it is a grenade attack or something else…”

“There was a blast at around 1 am…I was sleeping, and I thought that it was the sound of thunder…Later, I was informed that a blast had taken place…after this, I sent my gunman to the police station…CCTV is being investigated; forensic experts are also present here.”, said Manoranjan Kalia.

Manpreet Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police in Jalandhar, confirmed the incident and told reporters, “The forensic team will inspect and give the report. The incident took place at the residence of Manoranjan Kalia.”
