Harjinder Singh Murder Case: Police encounter three accused; accused Gopi injured, rest arrested

Police have encountered three accused in the murder case of Shiromani Akali Dal councilor Harjinder Singh of Jandiala Guru in Chheharta, Amritsar. According to information, this encounter took place on Jhabal Road, some distance from Fatehpur Central Jail.

Seeing the police, the accused started firing, after which Gopi was injured in the police’s retaliatory firing, while the rest are in police custody. Earlier, the police had arrested two shooters of the Krishna group, who have been identified as Bachittar Singh and Anand.

Police said that 2 pistols and 7 cartridges have also been recovered from them. Although both of them had no hand in this murder case, they were members of the Krishna group, due to which they were arrested and weapons were also recovered from them.

Meanwhile, SSP Rural, Maninder Singh had said on Sunday that there was a long-standing feud between the two groups, Krishna Group and Harjinder Group. The police have identified 3 persons in the murder case, while the vehicle used in the incident has also been identified.

About this encounter, Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav posted on X. He said, “In a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantles an organized crime network linked to the foreign-based Kishan Gang. Within 8 hours, four gang operatives were arrested, leading to the swift resolution of the Murder Case of Harjinder Singh @ Bahman (Municipal Councillor, Jandiala Guru). During a chase near Fatahpur, accused Gurpreet Singh @ Gopi opened fire on the police party. In self-defence, SHO Chheharta retaliated with his service weapon, injuring Gopi in the right leg. The accused was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital, Amritsar for medical care and is currently under treatment.”
