Chandigarh, July 15: Former Shiromani Akali Dal leader from Tarn Taran, Harmeet Singh Sandhu has now joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). In Chandigarh, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the party’s Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia inducted him into the party. Harmeet Sandhu’s entry into the Aam Aadmi Party is being linked to the Tarn Taran by-election.
Some time ago, the current AAP MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal died due to illness, due to which this seat has fallen vacant. Now by-elections are likely to be held here soon, and Harmeet Singh Sandhu’s joining is being linked to the party’s strategy. Harmeet Singh Sandhu, who has been an MLA for three consecutive times , has been an MLA from Tarn Taran Assembly for three consecutive times. Harmeet Singh Sandhu had resigned from SAD, after which there was a buzz in political circles that he would join a party. He has been an MLA in 2002, 2007 and 12.
However, he had to face defeat in 2017. While in 2022 also he contested the election on the ticket of Shiromani Akali Dal. However, he could not win. He stood second.
