High Court stays appointment of Punjab Women Commission Chairperson till April 22

Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the appointment to the post of Punjab Women Commission Chairperson till April 22. The High Court has also made it clear that if the government wants to continue the appointment process, it can do so but the appointment will not take place without the order of the court. Let us tell you that the High Court has also stayed the order to Manisha Gulati to vacate the government residence.

Manisha Gulati had challenged the Punjab government’s order to remove her from the post of chairperson of the Punjab State Women’s Commission in the High Court. After the matter came up in the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Punjab government had withdrawn the order to remove Gulati. Later the Punjab government issued a notification canceling Gulati’s service extension.

Gulati had again filed a petition against this and requested for its cancellation. The petition said that he had got service extension till March 2024 and the government cannot cancel his service extension without any reason. Manisha Gulati was appointed chairperson in March 2018 during the tenure of the former Congress government led by Captain Amarinder Singh. In the year 2020, her tenure was extended by three years, after which she joined BJP on February 20, 2022 and remained in her post.
