According to the information, the family sitting in the car was from Himachal Pradesh and was returning after meeting their relatives in Amritsar. While trying to save a person crossing the road on the Verka bypass, the car overturned and went down the road.
Inspector A.K. Sohi, who reached the spot, said that the mother of the driver driving the car and the person crossing the road had died. Jaswant Singh, who runs a sweet shop in Verka and crossed the road, has died.
The driver of the car, Gopi Chand, informed us that they were returning to Kangra in their car. Suddenly, a person came into the middle of the road near Doon Public School on the Verka bypass. While trying to save him, his car overturned.
He informed me that he had come to meet his relatives near Bhagatanwala in Amritsar.
An eyewitness to the incident, Ranjeet Singh, a resident of Bhikhiwind, told me that the car driver was coming from Amritsar. Then the deceased, walking on foot, came in front of the car.
The bodies are being sent to the mortuary. No information can be given right now about whose fault it was. The police can say something about this only after an investigation.
