A 23-year-old man named Amritpal from Bhagowal village in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, was kidnapped along with two others while traveling to Australia last month. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore, which was later reduced to ₹54 lakhs. Amritpal’s family is consumed by grief and worry, and they are desperate for his safe return.
According to SHO Gursahib Singh, the police received a complaint about the incident. “There’s a village in our area with an agent who sent three boys to Australia. One of them, named Amritpal, was told to stay in Iran for a day before proceeding further. However, he was kidnapped there, and the kidnappers are demanding ₹54 lakhs for his release,” the SHO explained.
Amritpal’s mother recounted the events leading up to the kidnapping. “The agent promised a 5-year work permit in Australia – 2 years here and 3 years there. The company visa came, and they said it would take ₹18 lakhs. They WhatsApped my child that the visa has arrived, and we should arrange the money. We collected ₹18 lakhs and gave it to the agent in Pipra,” she said.
She added that the agent instructed them to reach a hotel on the 25th, where he would provide further instructions. However, when they arrived, the agent claimed that the ticket was canceled and rescheduled for the 29th. “He asked us to leave the child with him, but I didn’t leave my nephew,” she said.
It’s been 10-12 days since Amritpal’s mother last spoke to him. The family has filed a case against the agent, and a warrant has been issued.
The police assured that as soon as the agent is found, he will be arrested and presented in court. The family is anxiously awaiting Amritpal’s safe return and is cooperating with the police investigation.
