Hoshiarpur: On February 1, 2025, the Vigilance Bureau spokesperson shared details about the arrest of Harminder Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer, and Kewal Sharma, Lineman, both from the Hoshiarpur Division of PSPCL. The arrests were made following a complaint by Lakhveer Singh, Senior Executive Engineer at PSPCL, Mukerian. The complainant reported that Harminder Singh had demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 for party funds and the swift assignment of a lineman, Kewal Sharma.
Giving detailed information in this regard, Vigilance Bureau spokesperson said that Lakhveer Singh is posted as Senior Executive Engineer in the said office PSPCL Division Mukerian. Accused Harminder Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer, Hoshiarpur Division called the complainant to his office on 29.01.2025 and demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000/- in the name of party fund and said that the accused lineman posted in my office should be arranged soon and handed over to Sharma.
The complainant arranged the money on 31.01.2025 and talked to Deputy Chief Engineer Harminder Singh on his phone. Accused Harminder Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer, told the complainant that you meet Sharma lineman only, then the complainant handed over the money on 01.02.2025.
On 01.02.2025, Lakhveer Singh complained about it to the Vigilance Bureau. Acting on the complaint along with the complainant Govt. witness was taken along and a trap was laid. Inspector Vijaypal Singh, Vigilance Bureau, Unit 1, Hoshiarpur, arrested the accused Harminder Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer and Kewal Sharma, Lineman.
They were caught red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 50,000. The bribe amount was recovered from the spot. In this regard, FIR No. 06 dated 01.02.2025 has been registered against accused Harminder Singh, Deputy Chief Engineer and Kewal Sharma, Lineman Uktan under Section 7 of the Act 1988 (Act No. 100) and Section 61(2) of the Act 2018. ) Police Act, Viabi Range. Registered in Jalandhar. Both the accused will be produced in the Hon’ble Court tomorrow on 02.02.2025 and remanded for interrogation.
