“If he is a healer why can’t he heal his wife and his own leg?” Bajinder Singh Leniency plea raises questions

Chandigarh: Bajinder Singh, the self proclaimed pastor sentenced to life imprisonment for a 2018 rape case, recently pleaded for leniency, citing personal hardships. He highlighted his responsibilities as the father of three young children and his wife’s illness, along with a physical disability due to a rod in his leg that limits his mobility.

However, Bajinder Singh’s plea has raised eyebrows due to his claims of being  “Healer in the name of Jesus”. Here comes the point that, if he truly possesses healing powers, why is he unable to cure his wife’s illness or his own leg?

This has sparked a wider debate about the legitimacy of Bajinder Singh’s claims, especially in light of his legal troubles.

Despite his emotional appeal, the court upheld its decision, sentencing him to life imprisonment, and the case continues to generate public discourse.

A special court in Punjab’s Mohali, Tuesday sentenced Bajinder Singh, a self-proclaimed Christian pastor, to life imprisonment in the 2018 rape case.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Vikrant Kumar delivered the verdict. Last Friday, Kumar convicted Bajinder Singh under Sections 376 (rape), 323 (punishment for voluntary causing hurt), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) after which he was sent to Patiala jail. The woman’s lawyer Sumit Sawhney said Bajinder Singh pleaded for mercy before the judge, stating that he has a rod in his leg, which makes it difficult for him to walk properly. He also said his children are very young and that his wife is frequently unwell, with no one to take care of her.
