Arshdeep Singh also drowned while trying to save his brother.

Patiala: In Patiala, despite not knowing how to swim, a young man was forced by his friends to take a bath in the Bhakra canal. To save 19-year-old Gurdas, who had jumped into the canal, his cousin, Arshdeep Singh, also jumped into the canal.

Arshdeep Singh also drowned while trying to save his brother. After taking out the dead bodies of both of them from the canal, the police registered an FIR against the three accused friends. Police have arrested Nirmal Singh, Hardeep Singh, and Manveer Singh, residents of Sangrur, on the statement of deceased Gurdas Singh’s father, Jaswinder Singh.

According to the FIR, Gurdas Singh, who was studying at ITI, had gone to give the paper on June 26, along with his maternal uncle’s son, Arshdeep Singh, who was also there. Gurdas called his father and told him that the morning session’s exam was over and now he had to give the paper in the evening.

During this time, both the brothers reached the Bhakra canal with their three friends, where the others started bathing. Gurdas said that he does not know how to swim. Even after this, the accused forcibly made him go into the canal, where, seeing him drown, Arshdeep Singh tried to save him, but he also drowned.

SHO Darshan Singh of Station Ghagga said that the arrested accused will be produced in court and taken on remand so that the truth of the incident can be known.
