Mother-son duo arrests for opium smuggling in Khanna

2 kg and 9 grams of opium were found while doing business while living in Beabad Colony.

Khanna: In Punjab, Khanna police have arrested a mother and son on charges of opium smuggling. Both were bringing a consignment of opium in a black Thar car. They were arrested near KFC on the National Highway. 2 kg and 9 grams of opium were recovered from the Thar car.

The accused were identified as Karanjit Singh Walia and his mother, Darshana, residents of New Shivpuri, Ludhiana.

SHO Doraha Gurpratap Singh said that when the police party reached GT Road from Kaddon via Beabad Colony, a black Thar started going inside the colony from the Khanna side. The police stopped them based on suspicion.

On searching, 2 kg and 9 grams of opium were recovered from the Thar car. Initial investigation has revealed that the mother and son used to bring opium from outside states and supply it to Ludhiana and other areas. Further investigation will be done by taking their remand.
