Amritsar: Internal politics has intensified in Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the Mayor and other Municipal Corporation posts. In view of this, the difficulties of Congress seem to be increasing. At present, the big leaders of Aam Aadmi Party are heading towards Delhi and Chandigarh, so that they can claim their rights on senior posts.
Congress is contacting its 40 councilors, so that despite being close to victory, they do not get away from the Mayor’s chair. Senior leaders like AAP’s victorious councilors Priyanka Sharma, Jatinder Singh, Virat Devgan, Jarnail Dhot, Natasha Gill are currently in touch with party leaders in Delhi and Chandigarh and are trying to get the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor elected.
AAP claimed majority
AAP has claimed majority by performing brilliantly in the Municipal Corporation elections. According to the party, they have the support of 24 councilors as well as 50 councilors. Party leaders says that this support will play a decisive role in the election for the post of mayor. On the condition of anonymity, party leaders says that Aam Aadmi Party will reveal its cards when the time comes.
However, getting this support is not so easy. There is a tussle going on among the leaders within the party regarding the posts. Many leaders are involved in the race for the post of mayor, including names like Priyanka Sharma, Jasmeet Singh, Ashok Kumar and Natasha Shiv. All these leaders are staking claim for the post of mayor on the basis of their hold and experience.
Tussle going on within the party
It is becoming a challenge to reach a consensus among the senior leaders of AAP regarding different posts. Many leaders are also staking claim to the posts of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor. This tussle has also increased because the party has not yet decided which candidates will be given priority.
The party leadership is insisting that the candidate for the post of mayor will be selected only with the support of all the MLAs and councilors. With this, an attempt is being made to maintain internal democracy in the party.
Strategy of BJP and SAD
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are also making strategies to challenge AAP. Some BJP leaders believe that they can take advantage of AAP’s internal tussle and gain a foothold in municipal politics. For this, BJP has started contacting independent councillors and leaders of other parties.
SAD has also intensified its efforts to ensure its role in this political race. Party leaders say that they will strengthen their position in those areas where AAP and BJP have less influence.
