Counter-Intelligence Amritsar has achieved great success and busted an international arms smuggling network linked to the US. The police have arrested a smuggler in the case along with 5 illegal pistols.
DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav informed through his social media Twitter X account that acting on confidential information, Counter-Intelligence Amritsar has busted an international arms smuggling module and arrested Gurvinder Singh alias Guri, a resident of Ludhiana. Five illegal pistols have been recovered from his possession.
He said that preliminary investigation has revealed that Gurvinder Singh was working on the instructions of Gurlal Singh and Vipul Sharma, who are currently living in the United States of America (USA) and are the main operators of this network.
Accused Gurvinder Singh is the brother-in-law of Hardeep Singh, a known drug smuggler. Hardeep had fled to the US in 2022 after his arrest in a case registered by the STF in 2020. Gurlal and Hardeep appear to have set up an international arms smuggling racket in Punjab through local contacts and foreign alliances.
An FIR has been registered in this case at SSOC, Amritsar and further investigation is being carried out to identify all the forward and backward links of the network.
