Chandigarh: Punjab Police told the High Court that farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was on a hunger strike, has not been arrested. He has been kept in the hospital as per the Supreme Court’s order.
In this regard, SSP Nanak Singh of Patiala filed a status report in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on behalf of Punjab Police. A petition was filed in this regard. In which it was claimed that Dallewal has been kept in illegal custody.
Punjab Police also told the court that no case has been registered against Dallewal nor he has been arrested. After this, the court allowed the family members to meet Dallewal. The next hearing in this case will be on March 26.
After this hearing, Punjab Police IG (Headquarters) Sukhchain Singh Gill said – About 1400 farmers were detained. The police have released 800 farmers. Women who are above 60 years of age or have any medical problem will also be released. About 450 farmers will be released today. Taking a strict stance on the issue of stolen belongings of farmers, the Punjab government has registered three FIRs and appointed SP Jasbir Singh as the Nodal Officer. Gurmukh Singh, head of Bharatiya Kisan Union Doaba, filed this petition on March 21. In which he said that Dallewal has been on a hunger strike for 117 days. He has cancer. There is no trace of him since March 19. More than 400 farmers have been detained. He had submitted a list of names of 50 farmers to the court.
On the other hand, the agitating organizations Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have called a press conference in Mohali today. Farmer leaders will talk about their next strategy.
