Married woman in Jagraon reports dowry harassment, investigation underway

Husband who went to Canada demanded 10 lakh rupees; in-laws seized the goods.

Jagraon: In Jagraon, a man who went to Canada with 8 lakh rupees along with his family, has demanded ten lakh rupees from in-laws. The married woman, troubled by her husband and his family, has registered a case against the accused at the police station. The accused husband has been identified as Navdeep Singh, while mother-in-law Chhinderpal Kaur and father-in-law Baljinder Singh, are residents of village Gagewal Barnala.

Giving information, ASI Pradeep Singh of Hathoor police station said that the victim woman, Hardeep Kaur, a resident of village Ferurai, told the police in the complaint lodged that she was married to the accused, Navdeep Singh. Shortly after the marriage, her husband and father-in-law started taunting her for less dowry. She started being harassed for less dowry.

During this time, her husband demanded eight lakh rupees from her family to go to Canada. Her parents somehow gave eight lakh rupees to her husband to settle their daughter’s home. After taking 8 lakh rupees, her husband went to Canada. After her husband left, now 10 lakh rupees are being demanded from her again. Not only this, the goods given by her family at the time of marriage have also been kept in possession by her in-laws. After investigating the case, the police registered a case against the three accused in the Hathur police station.
