Jalandhar: Commissionerate Police arrest two accused with 2 kg opium  

Police said that they have not yet found any criminal background of the two arrested accused.

 Jalandhar Commissionerate Police, led by Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, has arrested two people, including a woman, with 2 kg of opium. Giving information in this regard, Additional Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma said that the Police Commissionerate has taken steps to stop the smuggling of drugs.

He said that under this, security has been increased across the city to nab criminals involved in drug trafficking. Additional Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma said that the police team had set up a blockade at Lahoria Gurdwara Sahib, 120 Feet Road, Surya Enclave Jalandhar.

Additional Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma said that during patrolling, the police party saw two people coming from Qazi Mandi . Suspecting their activities, the police inquired about their identity and conducted a thorough search. He added that during the search, the police identified the two accused as Balwant Kumar, son of Kedar Singh, resident of Jharkhand and Bimli Devi, resident of Jharkhand. During the search, 1 kg each of opium, total 2 kg was recovered from both.

Police took immediate action and arrested both the accused and registered a case against them in Rama Mandi Jalandhar under FIR 73 dated 18-03-2024 under NDPS Act 18-61-85. Police said that they have not yet found any criminal background of the two arrested accused. Additional Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma said that the matter is being further investigated and details will be shared later.
