Jalandhar, May 8: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal has appealed to citizens to make purchases with restraint and thoughtfulness. He urged people not to indulge in panic buying. He assured that, as per the directions of the Punjab Government, the district administration stands firmly with the people to handle any kind of emergency situation.
Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that there is no need for people to panic or fear. He said that during emergencies, the Punjab Government ensures all forms of support and assistance to the public. He assured that the Jalandhar administration is fully prepared to deal with any such situation.
The Deputy Commissioner made it clear that hoarding of essential commodities or any other items will not be tolerated. He stated that anyone found guilty of hoarding or black marketing will face strict legal action. He also directed the DFSC to maintain strict vigilance against hoarding and to prepare a list of those purchasing in bulk with ill intent, to be shared with the administration.
Additionally, Dr. Aggarwal appealed to citizens to take future mock drills seriously. He informed that such drills will be conducted for a short period. During blackout drills, lights and traffic signals will be turned off. He urged residents to switch off inverters and generators at home or ensure no light escapes through windows or doors. Unnecessary travel should be avoided, and any vehicles on roads should stop at the side with their lights off.
Dr. Aggarwal instructed that even if sirens are heard without any prior announcement of a mock drill, citizens should immediately follow practiced safety protocols. He advised residents to ignore rumors and follow all government advisories strictly. Strict action will be taken against anyone spreading false information.
Meanwhile, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, DFSC Narinder Singh inspected various stores, including D-Mart. Store managers were instructed not to sell items in bulk to individuals and to encourage customers to buy only what is necessary. Regular announcements are also being made at stores urging people to shop responsibly.
