Jalandhar: District office gheraoed for preventing employees for marking attendance without govt orders

The leader said that during a meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat on December 26, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema had directed senior officers to immediately address the demands of the employees. However, some district officers in the education department are preventing employees from marking attendance without any government orders.

Jalandhar: On one hand, the Punjab government is attempting to resolve the issues of employees by holding meetings with them, but on the other hand, the bureaucracy is becoming eager to take action against the employees. During the ongoing strike by office employees, some district education officers in the state have issued orders preventing employees from marking their attendance, which has increased resentment among employees. As a result, today, employees surrounded the officers who issued the attendance ban and warned that if the attendance of employees present in the office is not recorded, the employees will be forced to close the gates of the offices completely.

The leader said that during a meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat on December 26, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema had directed senior officers to immediately address the demands of the employees. However, some district officers in the education department are preventing employees from marking attendance without any government orders.

The leader further mentioned that on April 21, 2022, Chief Minister and the Cabinet Sub-Committee had agreed to regularize the office employees, and during the meeting on March 14, 2024, as per the Finance Minister’s orders, an affidavit was given by the union to the DGSE, but despite this, the employees have not been regularized. During the meeting, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema directed the relevant officials, including those from the Finance, Personnel, and Education Departments, to immediately convene a meeting of the officer committee and submit a report on regularizing 8886 teachers.

Additionally, the Finance Secretary was instructed to take immediate action on the file regarding the reduction in the salary of office employees and the increase in the salary for mid-day meal employees.

In a press statement, the leaders of the Sarv Sikhya Abhiyan Mid-Day Meal Office Employees Union, including Shobhit Bhagat, Gagandeep Sharma, Vishal Mahajan, Gaurav, and Gagan Syal, declared that while the government appears to be serious about addressing the employees’ demands, officers are intentionally harassing the employees. As a result, employees will gather outside the Education Bhawan in Mohali on January 9 and march towards the Chief Minister’s residence in Chandigarh.

On this occasion, employees like Pankaj, Shikha, Mamta, Mithun, Harpreet, Shalu, Tarn, Amarjeet, Ravi, Rajni, Sunita, Shivani, Ravi, Madam Vijay, Meenu, and others were present.
