Jalandhar: Man held with foreign currency worth Rs 2 crore, police investigating Hawala angle

According to the information received, the accused is being interrogated by Jalandhar City Police in Police Station New Baradari.

Jalandhar: The City Police in Jalandhar, Punjab, arrested a person with foreign currency worth about Rs 2 crore during a routine blockade on Sunday late at night. The accused did not have any proof of the said money, due to which the police have registered a case against the accused. All the cash recovered was in foreign currency.

The Commissionerate Police was engaged in investigation and interrogation till late night. The arrested accused has been identified as Puneet Sood alias Gandhi, a resident of Hoshiarpur. The police have also recovered a Creta car from him. During the blockade near Santnagar, the police stopped a black Creta on suspicion and searched it, and a huge amount of cash was recovered from it. Till late night, the accused was not able to show any concrete documents to the police, now the police is investigating the matter further.

According to the information received, the accused is being interrogated by Jalandhar City Police in Police Station New Baradari. A case was registered against the accused late at night and he was arrested. According to the information received, the market value of the foreign currency recovered from the accused is about two crore rupees. However, CP Swapan Sharma has denied any such case.
