Fire breaks out in Punjab’s largest GST office

Fifth floor badly burnt, thousands of important files burnt to ashes; reason not clear.

Jalandhar: In Jalandhar, a massive fire broke out on the fifth floor of the state’s largest GST office, located at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.


The reason for the fire is not clear; the fire was brought under control after about 2 hours of effort. Due to the fire in the GST building in Jalandhar, a huge number of records have been burned to ashes. The reasons for the fire are being ascertained. There has been no loss of life in the incident so far.


Harvinder Singh, an employee posted in the GST building, said that he was working as usual in the morning. During this time, suddenly, a strong smell of something burning started coming. Immediately, the employees were sidelined, and efforts were made to find out. When the police personnel posted in the building tried to find out, the fire was detected.

After which, the entire floor was immediately evacuated.


Harvinder Singh said that there has been no loss of life in the incident. At the same time, the weapons of the police personnel were also immediately taken out. The fire was brought under control with the help of about 10 fire brigade vehicles. The fire brigade team controlled the fire by climbing the adjacent building.


Fire brigade officer Jaswant Singh said that when they were controlling the fire near Nakodar Chowk in the morning, calls started coming from high officials, including the GST commissioner. In which it was learned that there is a fire in the GST building.


But before that, it was told that the fire had broken out in the passport office. At first, the officers got confused about the fire at both places. The teams had reached both places. But then it was learned that only the GST building had caught fire. The fire is now under control; soon it will be completely controlled. The fire broke out on the fifth floor of the GST building.
