Jalandhar West Bypoll: Surinder Kaur likely to contest election on Congress ticket, announcement soon

Jalandhar: Two parties have announced their candidates for the by-election to be held on Jalandhar West assembly seat of Punjab. BJP has given ticket to former MLA Sheetal Angural and AAP has given ticket to Mohinder Bhagat, son of former BJP minister Bhagat Chunni Lal. After the announcement of candidates by two major parties, it is expected that today Congress party can also announce its candidate ticket.

If reports are to be believed, There is talk of giving ticket to former Deputy Mayor Surinder Kaur from the seat. It should be noted that Surinder Kaur has been undefeated in the elections she has contested so far. Surinder Kaur’s name is considered almost final, only the official announcement from the party is pending.

However, there was also talk that Mohinder Singh Kaypee can return to Congress and Congress can give him a ticket. But KP has called these talks as baseless rumors.

Congress, which won in the Lok Sabha elections, is in high spirits. Therefore, Congress seems to have an upper hand in the West constituency. MP Charanjit Singh Channi is also saying that this time the Congress candidate will be from the West constituency.

At present, the most senior Congress leader in the West constituency is former senior deputy mayor Surinder Kaur. After the resignation of Sushil Rinku, Congress suffered a big setback in the West constituency. Most of its councilors have left the party and joined the BJP.

The bypoll in the Jalandhar West are held after former MLA Sheetal Angural joined BJP and tendered resignation. The polling will be held on July 10 while the counting of votes will be held on July 13.
