Punjabi singer Satinder Sartaaj has been ordered by the Court of Civil Judge in Kapurthala to appear on October 30 in response to a petition from local resident SS Malli, who is a lawyer and sportsman. The petition claims that Sartaaj’s upcoming concert at Guru Nanak Stadium on November 10 will interfere with the daily training and activities of athletes who utilize the stadium.
Malli contends that the stadium, funded by the government, should not be used for commercial events and that the permission granted to the singer is inappropriate. The petition seeks a permanent ban on the venue being used for such performances.
The court has included Sartaaj, his company Firdaus Productions, and several government officials—including the Chief Secretary of Punjab, Director Sports Punjab, District Sports Officer, DC and SSP Kapurthala, Municipal Commissioner Kapurthala, and SP Traffic Kapurthala—as parties in the case.
The complainant, who practices at the stadium daily, points out that many athletes depend on the hockey ground and that there are no alternative facilities available in Kapurthala. He argues that the concert will lead to significant disruptions for sportsmen and hinder their regular training.
Sartaaj has faced controversies in the past, such as being sued for alleged copyright infringement and for criticism over his pronunciation in a song. However, this particular case centers on the potential impact of his concert on the local sports community.
