Kapurthala, July 27: A 24-year-old Akashdeep died last night under suspicious circumstances. According to information, he had taken an injection of the wrong substance, due to which his condition deteriorated, and he died on the spot.
Akashdeep had returned home from a de-addiction centre some time ago and had quit drugs. His father, Bagga Singh, says that his son had not started drugs again; he suspects that someone forcibly injected him with drugs, which led to his death. This is the second death due to drug addiction in this colony in a month.
Police are investigating, waiting for the postmortem report
Giving information, Gurmeet Singh, in-charge of Dalla Sahib police post, said that the body of a young man was recovered near the village Toti, who was identified as Akashdeep, a resident of Rampur Jagir Basti. The police have sent the body for postmortem and said that only after the report comes, it will be clear whether the death was due to a drug overdose or some other reason.
Village sarpanch Gurpreet Singh, the deceased’s mother Reena Devi and villager Kulwinder Singh said that drug sales are rampant in the area and the administration is turning a blind eye. They alleged that drug smugglers in the area are fearlessly pushing the youth towards ruin. The villagers have demanded strict action from the government and the police administration so that no more youth fall into this trap.
