Jalandhar: The Jalandhar Rural Police have successfully cracked the case of Kahlistani Slogans written on a display structure near a statue of Dr. Ambedkar in Phillaur Town. the slogans, linked to Sikh for Justice (SFJ) terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun were discovered on March 31, sparking otrage and concerns about communal harmony in the region.
2 accused arrested, linked to SFJ through intermediary
Sharing the details with the media, Jalandhar Range DIG Naveen Singla confirmed the arrest of two main accused: Sukhbir Singh alias Rajan (31) of Noorpur Chattha, Nakodar, and Avtar Singh alias Tari, also a resident of Nakodar. DIG Singla stated that both were connected to Pannun through a third person and had been involved in Khalistani activities for the last three months.
“Four mobile phones and motorcycles have been recovered from them. They were instructed not only to write Khalistani Slogans but also to carry out acts of vandalism”, said DIG Singla. He added that investigations are underway to determine how much money they received and whether they are linked to any other incidents across Punjab.
According to the Police, the accused were involved in at least four similar incidents before the Phillaur case. As part of the investigation, police examined CCTV Footage from a 21-kilometer radius, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspects.
The slogans included phrases such as “Khalistan Zindabad”, “Sikhs are not Hindus”, and Khalistan flags were hoisted at the site”. These actions were followed by the release of a video by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who claimed responsibility and made inflammatory statements against the Indian Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy.
Pannun’s provocation around Ambedkar Jayanti
In the video, Pannun also made threatening claims about a major incident planned for April 14, coinciding with Ambedkar Jayanti. He called for the removal of all Ambedkar statues in Punjab, blaming the Indian Constitution for what he described as a lack of distinct identity for sikhs.
Authorities have condemned the act as a deliberate attempt to disturb communal harmony and incite division within the state. The Police continue to interrogate the suspects and are probing deeper into their network and instructions received from SFJ operatives abroad.
Security has been tightened across Punjab in light of the upcoming Ambedkar Jayanti to prevent any untoward incidents.
