Ludhiana: Today, a 125-foot-tall effigy of Ravana will be burnt in Daresi ground of Ludhiana, Punjab. More than 900 police personnel have been deployed in different fairs to maintain tight security in the city. The cost of making the tallest Ravan of Punjab is around 2 lakh rupees.
The city residents are very excited about the Daresi fair. This time, to give Ravana a unique look, he will be dressed in a king’s jacket and he will have a 15-foot-long sword in his hand. The jacket has been made with a computerized design. After the fire is lit, different colorful lights will come out of Ravana’s effigy.
Aqeel, an artisan from Agra, said that he has been making effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnath since 2004. This effigy wich is tallest effigy of Punjab is being prepared in Daresi ground from a long time. Last year, a 120 feet tall Ravana was made in Ludhiana itself, but this time its height has been increased further and effigy of 125 ft has been made. The cost of making the tallest effigy is around 2 lakhs.
In the evening, the effigies will be set on fire marking the victory of good over evil. The effigies have been filled with crackers and fireworks later will be a visual delight for the spectators taking part in celebration.
