Ludhiana Police registered FIR against YouTube Channel, compared AAP Leader Raghav Chadha with Fugitive Vijay Mallya

The case was filed at Shimlapuri police station following a complaint lodged by Vikas Parashar, the son of AAP's Ludhiana Lok Sabha candidate, Ashok Pappi Parashar.

Ludhiana: Ludhiana Police has initiated legal action against a YouTube channel, Capital TV, for purportedly disseminating false information regarding Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP, Raghav Chadha.

The case was filed at Shimlapuri police station following a complaint lodged by Vikas Parashar, the son of AAP’s Ludhiana Lok Sabha candidate, Ashok Pappi Parashar.

The complaint says that  that Capital TV, the YouTube Channel compared AAP’s Raghav Chadha to fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya. It also claimed that the party engaged in the sale of election tickets.

The FIR underlines the seriousness with which authorities are addressing the spread of misinformation and defamatory content on online platforms.

This legal action reflects the growing concern over the impact of false news and slander on public perception and political discourse.

FIR under various sections

The FIR has been registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) and 505 (making, publishing or circulates any statement, rumour or report) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and section 66 (Computer related offences) of Information and Technology Act.
