Chandigarh: A significant fire broke out in the early hours of Monday, completely destroying the Ladies’ Bar Room and damaging adjacent lawyers’ chambers at the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The blaze erupted around 4:45 am, with fire tenders managing to control it by 5:15 am.

Sartej Singh Narula, President of the Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association, said the flames could have spread into the main courtrooms if not doused promptly. Officials suspect a short circuit as the potential cause, which is currently under investigation.

By morning, the women advocates’ Bar Room was reduced to a charred shell, and Room No. 4 along with parts of the Main Bar Room also suffered significant damage. The Bar Association estimates the restoration cost at approximately ₹35 lakh and has appealed to its members, especially senior advocates, to contribute toward rebuilding efforts.

No injuries or casualties have been reported, as all personnel evacuated in time.
