Kapurthala, June 8: A major robbery incident has been reported in the Sarafa market of Kapurthala. On Sunday morning, miscreants in a car held the market watchman hostage at gunpoint. After this, the miscreants broke the shutter of the jewellery shop and took away the safe kept inside. The police are investigating the matter.
According to the information, there were gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees in the safe. After receiving the information of the incident, DSP Deepakran Singh and City Thana police reached the spot and started the investigation. Confirming this, the DSP said that his team is scanning the CCTV cameras installed around the incident site.
5 miscreants came by car
According to the information, the incident happened on Sunday morning at around 4:30 am. Five miscreants came in a car. They held the market watchman, Bahadur, hostage at gunpoint. After this, they broke the shutter of Singh Jewellers and took away the safe lying in the shop.
Shop owner Ajay Kumar said that about 50 tolas of gold jewellery and 20 kg of silver were kept in the safe. The cost of the stolen jewellery is estimated to be around Rs 70 lakh. DSP Deepkaran Singh said that an investigation into the incident has been started.
The team is examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed at the crime scene and in the surrounding area. The police is conducting raids by forming several teams to identify and arrest the miscreants.
