Amritsar : A fire broke out in a three-storied blanket warehouse near Maha Singh Gate under B Division police station late on Tuesday night.
Due to the fire, goods worth lakhs of rupees in the warehouse burnt to ashes. Upon learning of the incident, police and fire brigade vehicles arrived at the scene. By morning, the fire was successfully contained. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties in the incident.
Watchman Harjit Singh, who was present at the spot, said that at 1 o’clock in the night, flames started coming out of the warehouse. He immediately reported the incident to the fire department.
After some time PCR employees also reached the spot. Two fire brigade vehicles reached the spot to control the fire within about 10 minutes. But the fire continued to grow. Even water cannons were not capable of extinguishing the fire.
Seeing the fire spreading, three more fire brigade vehicles reached the spot. After continuous efforts, five vehicles of the fire brigade brought the fire under control at 3.15 am.
