Chandigarh: The matter of delayed lifting of Paddy in the grain markets of Punjab has reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. In this case, the High Court has issued notice to the Center Government, Punjab Government, and FCI. All parties have been asked to file their reply on the next date of the hearing. The next hearing will be held on October 29. The ruling party has put all the blame on the central government for this situation.
Officially the procurement of paddy started a while ago but ever since that day farmers have been complaining about poor and delayed purchase of their crop. Farmers have also launched protest in which they freed toll plazas, and blocked railways and highways but still no concrete solution has been found.
Under the banner of Samyukta Kisan Morcha, farmers had tried to surround the CM residence. CM Mann had held a meeting with the farmers with assurance to resolve the whole matter but the situation has not improved yet.
CM Bhagwant Mann had talked to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on 22 October regarding the problems related to paddy procurement in Punjab. He raised the issues of rice millers before him. During this, the main issue raised was the problem of transportation costs. There is a shortage of storage space, the issue of hybrid quality, and the losses to the sellers were told in detail to the Home Minister.
