Chandigarh : Heavy rain fell in many districts of Punjab including Jalandhar and Amritsar late on Monday night. After 10.30 pm, the farmers lost their sleep when the rain started with strong wind.
The rain fells on the ripe wheat in the fields. There is fear of heavy loss of wheat due to rain. Wheat harvest will also be affected. Amritsar received 3.0 mm, Nawanshahr 1.3 mm, Rupnagar 0.5 and Chandigarh 0.4 mm. The temperature also dropped due to heavy rain.
The advice of agricultural experts to the farmers is that do not harvest wheat till 19 of April. According to the weather department, the weather is likely to remain clear for the next two days. Then on April 18 and 19, there may be rain with strong winds. Agricultural experts have advised farmers not to harvest wheat till April 19.
This year, the country is likely to receive more than normal rainfall during the monsoon season. The news comes as a relief to farmers.
