Patiala: Four MNREGA employees were crushed by an uncontrolled canter on Monday in village Bishanpura on Sunam Patiala Road in Sangrur district of Punjab killing them on the spot. The deceased were identified as Jarnail Singh Jaila, Harpal Singh Pala, Chhota Singh Puri, and Gurdev, residents of village Bishanpura. The accident took place when they were having lunch. The speeding canter crushed them and killed them on spot. After the incident, the canter driver fled from the spot, who was caught by the people and handed over to the police. The matter is being investigated.
Other people working there said that this accident could have been bigger if all the employees were working together. When the accident happened, some people were sitting on the roadside to have lunch, while some were working. During this time the canter came at a very high speed. Some people managed to run away. However, Jarnail Singh Jaila, Harpal Singh Pala, Chhota Singh Puri and Gurdev came under the canter.
As soon as the people working there heard the shouts of the people, they gathered. They chased and caught the accused driver. People handed him over to the police. After the accident, people of the entire village have reached the spot.
