Mohali: Mohali State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) has busted an interstate arms smuggling gang and arrested a smuggler from Jharkhand. The accused used to bring illegal weapons from Madhya Pradesh and supply them to Mohali. The accused has been identified as Sonu Kumar Paswan. SSOC has also named another unidentified person in this case.
A case has been registered against the smuggler under section 61 (2) of BNS and Arms Act at police station SSOC. The accused has been produced in Mohali court and sent on two-day police remand.
SSOC investigating officer Harminder Singh said that his team had received information that Sonu Kumar Paswan was coming towards Kharar to supply illegal weapons. Based on the information, the police immediately started checking by blocking the Kharar area.
When the accused reached the spot and tried to change the route after seeing the police, the team took him into custody. During the search, illegal weapons were recovered from him. After this, the police took immediate action, seized the weapon, and registered a case against the accused.
According to sources, the accused is involved in gangster activities and supplies weapons to the henchmen of gangsters sitting abroad to carry out crimes in Punjab. At present, his interrogation is going on and it is expected that more important revelations can be made in further investigation.
